ERSS design review
Support for retaining system selection, excavation staging, temporary works assumptions, design basis and engineering coordination.
ERSS.sg helps developers, contractors, architects, QPs and owners prepare authority-ready ERSS design documentation, coordinate Qualified Person review and support submission workflows towards BCA plan approval / NOA.
Excavation works can trigger formal ERSS plan approval, QP appointment, Accredited Checker review, geotechnical review, site implementation records and monthly submission obligations. We structure the engineering workflow so clients understand what is needed before work starts.
Support for retaining system selection, excavation staging, temporary works assumptions, design basis and engineering coordination.
Preparation and coordination of ERSS submission materials, supporting reports, forms and authority-facing clarifications.
Assistance with site implementation records, instrumentation / monitoring coordination, Annex C and monthly Annex E workflow.
A quick client guide based on BCA's ERSS submission requirements. Final requirements depend on actual site condition, excavation type, dimensions, surrounding risks and applicable regulations.
| Excavation / ERSS condition | Typical requirement | Appointment considerations |
|---|---|---|
| Excavation / ERSS not deeper than 1.5 m | Plan approval may not be required, subject to exemptions and site context. | Confirm whether it forms part of building works or other authority-triggering scope. |
| More than 1.5 m and up to 4 m | ERSS plan submission by QP(ST). | AC generally not required under the BCA threshold table. |
| More than 4 m and up to 6 m | ERSS plan submission and checking. | QP(ST) and AC involvement typically expected. |
| More than 6 m, GBW / basement excavation | Higher-risk ERSS / geotechnical building works route. | QP(ST), QP(Geo), AC and AC(Geo) may be required. |
Note: where the earth retaining structure is not constructed of reinforced concrete or steel, BCA indicates that the applicable depth can be 1 m instead of 1.5 m.
Collect site plan, proposed excavation levels, adjacent structures, utilities information, SI report, method statement and programme.
Review ERSS concept, design assumptions, stage sequence, temporary works interface, monitoring trigger values and risk controls.
Coordinate drawings, calculations, ERSS Annex A, SI certification requirements and authority clarifications for BCA-facing submission.
Support the project team through BCA comments, plan approval / NOA workflow, permit and commencement notification steps.
Understand the sequence from excavation screening, QP / AC appointment, SI report, ERSS design, BCA submission, permit, Annex C, Annex E and record plan close-out.
Learn practical ways to avoid redesign, unnecessary delay, duplicated submission effort and poor temporary works planning without compromising safety or compliance.
Send us your drawings, excavation depth, site photos, SI report if available, and intended start date. We will review the likely ERSS submission pathway.
